What are the Signs That Cast Iron Pipes Have Failed?

The most common sign of a failed cast iron pipe is brown water coming out of the tub/shower drain after flushing the toilet or opening the bathroom/kitchen faucet. This typically means the cast iron pipe has collapsed and sealed the line, backing up and carrying dirt and debris with it.

Another common sign of a failed pipe is a random puddle by a cabinet or vanity. Typically, this means the cast iron pipe's failure is causing water to accumulate above the pipe and seep through the foundation and flooring.

Other signs include gurgling drains, slow toilets, frequent clogs, lots of roaches, and unpleasant odors. A video inspection is the only way to know if your home's cast iron sewer system has failed.
